EnglishIdentifying, describing and classifying soils is the first step indicated to start an agricultural activity, since its characteristics can directly influence the management of the soil and the most appropriate ones. The objective of this study was to describe in detail a soil typical of the Brazilian Central Amazon in a practical way. For this purpose, the Manual of Description and Collection of Soil in Field and the Brazilian Soil Classification System of Brazil were used. Soil horizons were divided into five (A, AB, BA, B1 and B2) up to 1.5 m. In each horizon the following characteristics were identified: thickness, depth, color, structure, consistency, root presence, topography and transition of horizons. Soil was classified as Red-Yellow Latosol according to the described characteristics. portuguesIdentificar, descrever e classificar os solos e o primeiro passo indicado para se iniciar uma atividade agricola, pois suas caracteristicas podem influenciar diretamente o manejo do solo e as culturais mais indicadas. O objetivo desse estudo foi descrever detalhadamente um solo tipico da Amazonia Central Brasileira de maneira pratica. Para tal utilizou-se o Manual de Descricao e Coleta de Solo em Campo e o Sistema Brasileiro de Classificacao de Solos do Brasil. Os horizontes do solo foram divididos em cinco (A, AB, BA, B1-Diagnostico e B2) ate 1,5 m. Em cada horizonte foram identificados as seguintes caracteristicas: Espessura, profundidade, cor, estrutura, consistencia, presenca de raizes, topografia e transicao dos horizontes. O solo, portanto, foi classificado como Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo de acordo com as caracteristicas descritas.
