ResumoAbstract The paddy straw mushroom was grown on the type of compost commonly used to produce the cultivated mushroom, Agaricus bisporus (Lange) Sing. An appreciable quantity of light (15 min full sunlight) is required for initiation of fruit bodies. The average yield of paddy straw mushroom was 84 g mushrooms fresh wt/kg dry wt of compost at spawning time. Such production is in the range reported for straw mushroom production on rice straw in Asia but only 20% of the yield of the cultivated mushroom or champignon, A. bisporus .
