Resumo

Extended communication facilities now mean that documents often require to be exchanged between document processing systems with different hardware and software and incompatible data formats. More importantly the recipient needs to be able to manipulate and process the document in a way that conforms to the originator's intentions. This is only possible if the document structure, and the rules by which the document has been composed, are transmitted with the document itself. Office Document Architecture (ODA) is an international standard which provides the framework to enable the user to do just this.In supporting the adoption and future developments of ODA the PODA (Piloting the ODA) Project, which is funded within the ESPRIT II Programme, has the twin objectives of accelerating the development of ODA-based products and advancing the application of the ODA Standard. The standard is now well established with the standards bodies and product announcements are imminent.
