Resumo

SummaryTurnip mosaic (TurMV), a virus not previously detected in monocotyledonous species, was found to cause a severe mosaic disease of Tigridia pavonia in S.E. England. The virus generally resembled three authentic strains of TurMV in host range, symptomatology and other properties, but it differed from them in readily infecting T. pavonia.Leaf symptoms induced by TurMV in naturally infected and inoculated T. pavonia plants are indistinguishable from those attributed earlier in the U.S.A. to an aphid-borne virus tentatively designated “tigridia mosaic virus”; similarities in symptoms, vectors and other properties suggest that “tigridia mosaic virus” and TurMV are synonyms.
