ResumoIn this paper, we will try to portray the Portuguese poet Ruy Belo (1933”“1978) as a reader of the Brazilian poet Joao Cabral de Melo Neto (1920”“1999), evoking a relationship of alterity that allows us to confront the poetic and critical works of the two writers. We want to understand better how the echoes of Joao Cabral’s poetry are in the poetry of the Portuguese author, trying to understand how certain poems of Ruy Belo share compositive techniques, stylistic plans and symbolic cores that we recognize in the Joao Cabral’s poetry. This struggle of the author with the poetic voice of the Other, throughout his creative process, helps us to understand the vision that each of them has about poetry.
