ResumoIntroduction. Preterm deliveries are known to be associated with neonatal morbidity and mortality and morbidity later in life. Environmental and social factors have been acknowledged to affect the risk of this birth outcome. We evaluated the spatial pattern of singleton preterm births occurred in 2012 and 2013 in the municipality of São Paulo, Brazil, and described the mean socioeconomic conditions. Methods. Geocoded mothers' residential addresses were aggregated by sample area. A spatial scan statistical test was performed to identify possibly significant high or low clusters of preterm births (< 0.05.
