ResumoThis paper aims to present the thematic section Educate as art of governing, which will consist of eight other items that propose to discuss current and relevant questions to contemporary education in the perspective of foucaultian concepts of governance and governmentality. The article begins by showing briefly the genesis of this proposal, and then give readers an overview of Michel Foucault’s work, interested focused in concepts that serve as a conducting wire among the other papers. The discussion presented here seeks to balance fundamentals of the philosopher thought with more advanced theoretical contributions, relying on recent publications of some of his unpublished courses, as well as on papers that some researchers of educational field have been developing in recent years. The article concludes with a brief commentary on other items that make up the thematic section
