ResumoThe accelerating pillaging of the Amazon rainforest has deadly effects on climate justice and human rights, particularly those of women and girls. It is well documented that women bear the brunt of climate change and deforestation.1Rao N Lawson ET Raditloaneng WN Solomon D Angula MN Gendered vulnerabilities to climate change: insights from the semi-arid regions of Africa and Asia.Clim Dev. 2019; 11: 14-26Crossref Scopus (118) Google Scholar Diminishing resources such as water and food affect a woman's ability to care for her family, and increase her workload. At the same time, the influx of foreign mining and development companies can have devastating consequences for the human rights of women and girls. The arrival of transient workers, most of whom are men, often means the arrival of new illnesses, violence, cultures and attitudes, alcohol, and a blatant disrespect for indigenous cultures and communities.2Alves Viana AE Zimmermann TR Relações de gênero e violência contra mulheres indígenas em amambai—ms (2007–2013).Espaço Ameríndio. 2015; 9: 105Crossref Google Scholar This can be acutely devastating to women and girls who face increased risks of sexual and physical violence.
