ResumoThe existence throughout the seventeenth century of a control instrument, the trial of residence, on the viceroys of the West Indies government action, did not stop to commit illicit activities by those who had royal representation in those territories. This control system remained constant throughout the century, without taking into account the serious crimes observed in some trials, nor the reports of corruption that periodically reached the Council of the Indies, nor the extensive knowledge that the Court had about the fortunes that the viceroys managed to treasure. In spite of these factors induced to introduce some changes, any modification in the way of controlling viceroy's power was made.
