ResumoThis communication aims to demonstrate how the built environment of schools were produced and how they interfered in education in Brazil throughout history; analyzing the designed matrices of school buildings in the Colonial Period, the Imperial Period, the Republican Period and the Modernist Period; knowledge of this analysis leads to the understanding of how conception of the architectural design versus teaching concepts shaped features that even today are recognizable and standardize the buildings as the materialization of public policy that favors quantity forward the need for quality, formulating representative school environments
