ResumoThis work proposes concepts of humanization and marxist humanism for journalism, especially for photojournalism. First, it achieves a bibliographical review on humanized journalism starting from the reflection of Ijuim and Sardinha (2009) among other authors. Then, it presents a brief history of how the representation of the human being started to be concern of the painting (Pessanha, 1994) to humanist photojournalism (Burgi, 2012). After that, it presents a marxist perspective about the concept of humanization (Freire, 2016) and human essential characteristics defined by Markus (2015): consciousness, work and sociability. The conceptions of marxist humanism for journalism, especially for journalistic photography, can contribute to humanize the opressed portrayed.
