ResumoThe cooling concept of inlet air for gas turbines is essentially becoming a cost-effective strategy to boost the performance and efficiency of gas power plants that basically operates, most of the time, at off-design conditions. This paper presents the CO2 emission and energy cost analysis of incorporating high pressure fogging air – intake cooling system in the Ihovbor gas turbine power plant in Benin City. Data for cooling of the ambient air temperature to the compressor (25.69°C to 17.01°C) was obtained from the power plant. The results obtained showed savings in greenhouse gas emissions of 183,246,550.92 kgCO2 and a profit/cost benefit of N912,227,896.2 which is equivalent to $2,998,283.965. Essentially, the results revealed that the incorporation of fogging inlet air cooling system into the Ihovbor gas turbine power plant is economically and environmentally viable. In addition, the result also revealed a reduction in the climate change effect on the local environment.
