On the basis of the eX/lerilllwtal data re/JOrted hy the other illvestigators, the over-all reaction rates q! the reduction oj silica and oj the water gas shift reaction were determined as a jimction oj o/Jerating conditions and the rates determined were apjl/-ied to a mathematical model. In addition, the s/lecijic heat oj each component oj burden lIIate rials contained in the model was represented as a Junction oj temperature .l.ongitudinal distributions oj the process variables in blast Jurnace have been determined by numerical calculations tvith the aid oJ digital computer ( f-IITAC 5020E).B oth the fractional utilization oj hydrogen and the Jractional reduction oj iron ores at the tOll oJ the bed in the Jumace were taken into account Jor these calculation>.T he fractiollal utilization oJ hydrogen at the top oj the bed exerts influence on the distribution oj the molar fraction oj hy drogen but not so much Jar the distributions oj the other va riables./-Jeat transJer coefficiellts between gas alld solid /larticle determined from different em/lirical equations Jar a /la cked bed and Jor a solid /larticle were used in each calculatioll based 011 the 1II0del, and the 10llgitudinal distributions q! the /lrocess variables obtained ~y these calClllations lInder the same o/Jera ting cOllditions ha ve been cOIII/lared each other.Longitudillal distributioll s oj the over-all reactioll rates ill the jitrlwce have been also discussed in th is /)(i/ler.
