ResumoIn Brief LEARNING OBJECTIVES From this article, the reader should understand the following concepts: • the difference between a fad and a trend • worldwide trends in the commercial, corporate, clinical (including medical fitness), and community health fitness industry • expert opinions about identified fitness trends for 2015 The annual ACSM’s Health & Fitness Journal® worldwide survey of health fi tness professionals is now in its ninth consecutive year. Last year, high-intensity interval training appeared for the fi rst time in the top 10 trends and was ranked no. 1, being overtaken by body weight training for 2015. As in the past, the 2015 survey supports many previous trends, shows some additional strength in others, and confi rms a trending decline in others. All of the trends appearing in the top 20 in 2014 made the list for 2015. For-profi t (commercial), medical fi tness, corporate wellness programs, and not-for-profi t community-based organizations continually try to predict the future of the fi tness industry in an effort to infl uence market direction. The ACSM annual survey is much different from others in that it not only surveyed thousands of certifi ed fi tness professionals around the world but also sought out experts to comment independently on the results.
