ResumoThe problem of pol_t_cal v_olence _n N_ger_a has _ts root from colon_al era and coupled w_th the m_l_tary _ncurs_on _nto pol_t_cs _n 1966, _t has cont_nued unabated result_ng _n loss of prec_ous l_ves and property.Th_s paper attempts to X-ray pol_t_cal v_olence _n North Central N_ger_a us_ng retrospect_ve analys_s and advances potent ways to amel_orate the menace _n the N_ger_a's body pol_ty.The paper _s explorat_ve and theoret_cal _n nature.Meanwh_le, pol_t_cal _ntolerance, pol_t_cs of ethn_c and rel_g_ous compet_t_on, unemployment and poverty, weak laws and poor adjud_cat_on are the fulcrums lead_ng to pol_t_cal v_olence.The f_nd_ngs clearly revealed an alarm_ng loss _n l_ves and propert_es, w_th Plateau State be_ng the h_ghest v_ct_m _n the zone.It also _nd_cated that there would be no mean_ngful pol_t_cal and soc_o-econom_c progress _n the country am_dst pol_t_cal v_olence.Thus, _t recommended the urgent rev_ew of our leg_slat_on to ensure a free and fa_r elect_on and v_olators be properly and promptly pun_shed by the jud_c_ary _n accordance w_th the law.Aga_n, publ_c off_ces must be made unattract_ve to reduce the 'do or d_e' contest syndrome as well as total reor_entat_on aga_nst ethn_c and rel_g_ous pol_t_cs w_th a genu_ne f_ght aga_nst poverty and unemployment.
