ResumoThe current Un^ted States' aggress^ve and un^lateral trade pol^cy, as well as the rap^d r^se of the Ch^nese un^que econom^c system -now challeng^ng the constant rules-based trade's ^nst^tut^on and global trad^ng system. In the current on-go^ng US-Ch^na trade spat, the European Un^on (EU) has a substant^al ^nterest, even ^f ^t has been so far reasonably kept from the Un^ted States (US) aggress^ve trade pol^cy and the react^on of Ch^na.In such unpred^ctable c^rcumstances, I beg^n to argue that the EU should adopt a pract^cally ^ndependent trade pol^cy, wh^ch can be made render^ng to the contemporary setup and go^ng beyond.F^nd^ng that how the EU treated both the US and Ch^na, I found that the EU was more adjacent to the US than Ch^na, but as Ch^na became more open to the world and the EU demand upsurge, the EU today shared an equal ^nterest w^th both Ch^na and the US.I then demonstrate that such s^tuat^on makes ^t ^mposs^ble for the EU to bu^ld an extens^ve trade pol^cy.The EU must make a steady trade pol^cy for protect^ng ^ts economy; ^n such case, I never mean that the EU has to make an extens^ve cho^ce or e^ther s^d^ng Ch^na or the US, or one aga^nst the other -EU to protect ^ts econom^c market can dec^de and act henceforth. The EU, even more than Ch^na and the US, ab^de and has a strateg^c ^nterest ^n preserv^ng global rules-based organ^zat^on such as the World Trade Organ^zat^on (WTO).As the US repeatedly challenged the WTO Appellate Body, I then recommend that the EU should take the leadersh^p for mak^ng WTO reforms and negot^at^on together w^th other al^gned states l^ke Ch^na and Japan. The EU must re^nforce ^ts domest^c tools for address^ng present and future challenges, mostly ^n trade and secur^ty related areas. In the t^me be^ng, I suggest that the EU should prepare ^tself for a more str^ngent t^me; the EU should rev^ew and reth^nk some of ^ts trade pol^cy.In such s^tuat^ons, I bel^eve that the EU parl^aments can play a v^tal role to contest w^th the current challenges and come up w^th new trade pol^cy wh^ch could overwhelm the current pun^t^ve status quo w^thout hurt^ng the contemporary global trad^ng system.
