Milo is all about crispy textures, Mimi prefers her treats sweet, and Max is solely interested in bananas. When Mimi suggests they cook something together, the boys are eager to help, but their differences of taste are too dramatic to result in a cohesive dish. At long last, Milo suggests the perfect solution: the siblings will make a pizza together, and each monkey can put whatever toppings they like to their own slices. Lai’s vivid digital art is a fusion of Paul Frank and Sanrio, with the black outlines of the monkeys standing out dramatically against the airbrushed backgrounds. The repetition of “crunchy,” “sweet,” and “BANANAS!” is sure to encourage some giggles from listeners, and the simple sans serif font is clear enough to promote reading along. Quarreling siblings are certain to relate to the bouncing monkeys, but don’t be surprised to hear some requests for strange menu combinations.
