ResumoBackground: Increasing longevity and increasing of the progressive chronic disease conditions of people admitted to long-term care facilities (LTCFs) increases the vulnerability of infections associated with health care.Objective: Knowing the incidence of healthcare associated infections in 3 LTCFs in the Alentejo Region -Portugal.Method: Longitudinal study, focusing on the LTCFs of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Santiago do Cacém, in a limited period of 6 years, from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2018.Results: The incidence of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) obtained in the present study presented is maximum value of 7.3 ‰ and a minimum of 1.75 ‰ in the medium and rehabilitation typologies, while in the typology of long duration, the maximum and minimum of 4.5 ‰ and 1, 9 ‰ respectively.
