The Formalisation of the United Nations and the African Union Partnership in Peace-keeping: The Central African Republic Experience

Abstract This article looks at the relationship between the United Nations and the African Union in peacekeeping settings. It also takes into account the role played by the regional economic organizations in this context. The article analysis the existing legal framework as well as the evolving practice, underlying the increasing institutionalization of such relationships. After scrutinizing the framework partnership, it looks into the Central African Republic experience with the aim of asserting whether and to what extent such framework has been applied. Resumo Este artigo examina a relacao entre as Nacoes Unidas e a Uniao African no contexto das missoes de manutencao de paz. Tambem leva em consideracao o papel desempenhado pelas organizacoes economicas regionais nesse contexto. A comunicacao analisa o quando juridico existente, bem como e evolucao subjacente a crescente institucionalizacao de tais relacoes. Depois de examinar a estrutura existente, o artigo procede a analise da experiencia da Republica Centro-Africana com o objetivo de discernir como e em que medida tal quadro foi aplicado.
