ResumoSince 2002, published miRNAs have been collected and named by the online repository miRBase. However, with 11 000 annual publications this has become challenging. Recently, four specialized miRNA databases were published, addressing particular needs for diverse scientific communities. This development provides major opportunities for the future of miRNA annotation and nomenclature.
