Resumo

This chapter discusses how petroleum geochemistry can be applied to field development, production practices, and reservoir problems. It will demonstrate that the concepts, tools, and methods developed for evaluating source rocks, crude oils, and natural gases are applicable to many problems in production and development. It will show how petroleum geochemistry can assist in reservoir appraisal by helping to identify shows and pay zones, make preliminary assessment of oil column quality, and assist in determining fluid contacts. In addition, production applications will be covered dealing the problems of organic deposition, reservoir continuity, production monitoring, commingling problems, production allocation, monitoring enhanced oil recovery programs, and reservoir souring.
