Thermochemical analysis in the range 700–900 K is performed on the systems Li-Be-O, Li-Si-O, Li-Si-Be and Be-Si-O, taking into account the compounds Li2O, BeO, SiO2, Li13Si4, Li7Si3, Li12Si7, Li22Si5, Li4SiO4, Li2SiO3, Li2Si2O5, Li2Be2O3 and Be2iO4. The ternary diagrams are combined and tentative quaternary diagrams of the system Li-Be-Si-O are calculated with a consistent set of data including the compound Li2SiO4. From the Li-Be-O diagrams it is revealed that mixtures of Be with Li2Be2O3 or Be with Li2O cannot be used as solid blanket materials since reactions producing liquid Li would occur. This can also be expected from the Li-Be-Si-O diagrams, for an homogeneous mixture of Be (multiplier) with Li4SiO4, which has been recently proposed for the NET solid blanket. However, mixtures of Li4SiO4 with Li2Be2O3, BeO or Li3BeSiO4 are chemically stable, even at temperatures up to 1200 K. Neither the mixed oxides nor SiO2 are stable in liquid Li at 700 K, with the exception of Li2Be2O3, whereas Li4SiO4 as well as Li2SiO3 are stable at 900 K.
