ResumoThis article discusses the presence of the guitar in the Brazilian rock during the 1960s and 1970s, highlighting its rebellious and transgressive symbolism. The context of a military dictatorship and musical conflicts forged an ideological struggle for the acquisition of musical hegemony in Brazil.Seeking cultural-ideological leadership, the artists of the so-called Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) sought to strengthen their style over rock music that, through Jovem Guarda and later Brazilian rock from the 1970s, gained space in the country's music scene. In addition, rock and the electric guitar (the physical transformation of a transgressive sonority at that time) were directly rebuked in the country by conservative forces through a march against the instrument.
