ResumoThe aim of this article is to analyse the representation of the northeastern identities present in the Brazilian cinema, from 2000 to 2010, focusing on the presence of these signs of northeasternity in the films Abril Despedaçado (2001), Lisbela e o Prisioneiro (2003) O Quinze (2004), A Máquina (2004) and O Homem que Desafiou o Diabo (2007).The research was based on studies about social representation (MOSCOVICI, 2001 andJODELET, 2001) and identity (HALL, 2013), and developed from content analysis, according to Fonseca Júnior (2011), and from image analysis through concepts of Marcel Martin (2003).It is noteworthy that an image already disseminated by the literature and its three perspectives of sertão: hell, paradise and purgatory (OLIVEIRA, 2000) is perpetuated. When it is not seen through drama, the region is comically presented as the place of the fantasies and the eccentric. There remains, therefore, a predictable, old-fashioned idea of the Northeast, with arguments from a script that change too little the perspectives of the region.
