Resumo

Information is a fundamental condition for democracy, especially for the deliberative exercise, where the participating citizens must access different perspectives, so that they can better decide. Traditionally, the media play a key role in informing citizens, monitoring government bodies and forming a ’public sphere’. However, the mechanics of this traditional model have been challenged by the increasing proliferation of new media, in a plethora of platforms and different contents, which are arranged hierarchically by the individuals who seek information to inform the decision-making processes, falling into different media repertoires. In this paper, we try to analyse the media and sources of information consulted to access the information about the proposals to votes in a deliberative Participatory Budgeting of the municipal level, in the national territory. The survey is carried out based on a questionnaire survey applied to voters in the Odemira’s Participatory Budgeting, during the voting period, in the year 2016.
