Resumo

This article is an experience report about a work developed by the extensionists of the nursing and medicine courses with the residents of a low-income community in the city of Campina Grande -PB.The objective of the work was health education with a socioeconomic and cultural context about intestinal parasites through activities such as lectures, workshops and leafleting.Data were collected on the results of parasitological stool examinations, in order to verify the most prevalent parasitic diseases, which were clarified during the health education sessions, using a participatory strategy, associated with various didactic resources.Individuals of both sexes from 5 years of age participated in the activities. 2 health education group sessions were held, through playful workshops for children and 2 lectures for adults at the USF Plínio Lemos I, José Pinheiro neighborhood, in addition to visits to 4 schools located in the east side of the city of Campina Grande, in the period between May and November 2017.The technical terms were decoded into the popular language.The experience allowed the professionals in training to know the peculiarities of socio-educational activities in health, helping in the process of understanding reality, as well as enabling the agents benefited by the activities to emancipate and raise awareness, resulting in the formation of more qualified and autonomous subjects.
