Diagnosis and Treatment of Venous Diseases

The varicosities present as a benign vascular lesion with pathologic tortuous dilations caused by the loss of connective tissue tonus that supports the vessels. It affects adults older than 60 years with no predilection for sex and is asymptomatic. Sublingual varices are the most common type but may occur to a lesser extent on the lips and oral mucosa. The purpose of this study is to describe a clinical case of a treatment option. A 75-year-old male leucoderm patient presented multiple nodular lesions, blue-purple color, located in the lower lip mucous. The patient was diagnosed has having varicosity, and the treatment chosen was the application of ethanolamine oleate, which promotes fibrosis in the vessel wall with possible occlusion of the vein by chemical sclerosis. It is indicated for the treatment of small varices. The patient presented involution of the lesion, having treatment with ethanolamine oleate, an alternative to the surgical procedure.
