ResumoIn this issue we are proud to be able to reprint a paper by Shatan from 1989. Although focused on the impact of the Vietnam war, the paper, as the following discussions will describe, remains timely with its observations about militarism and masculinity.11 Note that a figure in Shatan’s article (Figure 1) and the Beatles lyrics with which he ends his paper (from their song “Happiness Is a Warm Gun”) could not be included in this reprint due to copyright issues.
