In the historical fiction of Heloisa Maranhao (Lucrecia-1979, Dona Leonor Teles-1985 and A Rainha de Navarra-1986), the dimensions of time and space are mingled. The text mixes contemporary Brazilian reality with facts and people of remote European history and “dramatizes” the narrations, making use of a continuous present that practically does away with the narrator himself, as if the scenes were shown to the reader on a revolving stage. It also permutes speech and behaviour of characters with very dissimilar space-time origin and context.
