ResumoThis article aims to elucidate what is meant by memes. First, we will define the COVID-19 pandemic paradigm. Then, we will analyze memes along five axes: etymological, morphological, conceptual, communicational and cultural, revealing these cynical images - with the intention of generating humor - but which carry an unprecedented complexity as a technoimage, which allows us to express, in addition to syntax of the words and the circularity of the image, a pathological content that can only now be enunciated, creating a patafisica e nonsense reality. We bring a discussion about memetics as an epistemology, elaborating a theoretical basis that allows us to understand the real nature of memes. Through the analysis of two pages on Instagram, @saquinhodelixo and @meltedvideos, we will put this epistemology into practice to analyze the production and sharing of memes on Instagram and how the collective imaginary that is expressed in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic is present in the content memes, in an attempt to trace a certain cultural “diagnosis”. Finally, we conclude that this new mode of communication allows us to think about a new reality that will be expressed through memes, but that will require that we have control over its unbridled evolution in the networks.
