ResumoThis chapter introduces composite materials briefly and particularly in detail the fiber reinforced composites in terms of fundamental definitions, along with their applications, and current and future market outlook. The reinforcements and matrices, which are the basic constituents of the composites are mentioned, followed by the fiber/matrix adhesion, which is the key to composite properties. Later, the manufacturing processes of the composites are briefly explained. Characterization and testing of composites, which are very important for knowing the materials' properties, are given later. The chapter continues with the explanation of fiber surface treatments, which affect tailoring of fiber/matrix adhesion. Finally, a conclusion part and a reference list are included at the end section.
