ResumoThe aim of this study is to develop an analysis of stories by Mãe Beata de Yemonjá and to show that Afro-Brazilian literature of female authorship fulfills a social agenda of reflection on themes that turn to the universe of Afro-Brazilian culture.The collection of short stories Caroço de dendê (2002), by Mãe Beata, presents the wisdom of the terreiros as a possibility of building an Afro-Brazilian poetics, the short fiction of axé, which teaches the oral knowledge of the babalorixás, the yalorixás and the orixás as a vehicle for an education based on the law of the saint (VALLADO, 2010), the representativeness of minority groups (SOUZA, 2002) and the mythology of the orixás (PRANDI, 2001).
