ResumoMany electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) platforms exist for the research environment allowing researchers to upload and annotate data in real-time and to access years of previous results via searchable databases. More recently, ELN platforms are expanding to the teaching laboratory as well. The teaching laboratory has different needs than a research laboratory and therefore many of the commercial ELN platforms designed for the research environment are not ideal for teaching laboratories. In this chapter, the integration of ELNs into chemistry teaching laboratories will be reviewed across chemistry subdisciplines. In addition, this chapter will discuss the usage of Microsoft OneDrive as a host for an ELN that utilizes the Microsoft 365 Suite in biochemistry courses at Bridgewater State University (BSU) to promote and enhance communication and data analysis skills. The goals of these skills are to improve overall career readiness of BSU students regardless of their ultimate employment goals. This work will also describe BSU's goal of using ELNs across all chemistry laboratory courses to have students prepare four-year electronic laboratory portfolios (ELPs).
