ResumoIn Brazil, universities have an important role in technological development researches, but a few numbers of patent registrations. This study evaluated if the knowledge of professionals from the university about patents may be related to the low number of patent filings. For this purpose, the interviewees from Medical School of Unesp -Botucatu answered a questionnaire. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistics and multiple correspondence analysis. The results showed that the majority have little knowledge about the topic. Correspondence analyzes showed that the level of understanding about patents has correspondence with the participation in training activities, as well as the university technological production may be under-sampled, since the researchers who mentioned that they do not have patentable products are the same with little knowledge about patents.
