Resumo: os escritos do Frei Bartolomé de Las Casas sobre o processo da Conquista espanhola revelam a antítese do pensamento ocidental sobre a concepção de dignidade, liberdade e vida. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho busca trazer algumas características da existência humana intransponíveis a tomar como base uma análise ontológica sobre a condição humana dentro da narrativa de Las Casas. Com base no marco teórico de Hannah Arendt, busca-se contrapor o discurso presente na consciência histórica europeia e sua antítese fundamental: da contraposição entre o ser e o ente, a questão do Outro é enfrentada a partir da lógica da inexistência, do nada. Nesse sentido, o trabalho aponta para futuras reflexões acerca da formação da deontologia nos países latino-americanos, seja do ponto de vista do reconhecimento moral, seja do ponto de vista do reconhecimento jurídico. Para isso, lançou-se mão de método descritivo-reflexivo a partir de pesquisa bibliográfica de viés histórico-filosófico.Palavras-chave: Bartolomé de Las Casas; a condição humana; colonização; América espanhola; Ser e ente.Abstract: the writings of Friar Bartolomé de Las Casas on the Spanish Conquest process reveal the antithesis of Western thought on the concept of dignity, freedom and life. In this sense, the present work seeks to bring some insurmountable characteristics of human existence to be based on an ontological analysis of the human condition within the Las Casas narrative. Based on Hannah Arendt's theoretical framework, we seek to counter the discourse present in European historical consciousness and its fundamental antithesis: of the opposition between being and entity, the question of the Other is faced from the logic of nonexistence, of nothingness. In this sense, the work points to future reflections on the formation of ethics in Latin American countries, both from the point of view of moral recognition and from the point of view of legal recognition. For this, a descriptive-reflective method was used based on a bibliographic research with a historical-philosophical bias.Keywords: Bartolomé de Las Casas; the human condition; colonization; spanish America; Being and entity.
