Resumo

The present study is a descriptive and exploratory review on the benefits of passion fruit, fruit of plants of the genus Passiflora, especially Passiflora edulis, in individuals with diabetes.This disease is characterized by a metabolic disorder in blood glucose levels and its treatment consists of keeping glucose levels stable so that complications do not occur.In addition to drug treatments, research seeks natural options for the control and treatment of diabetes, including herbal medicines.Passion fruit is a fruit known for its numerous health benefits and nutrient content, and it is currently being studied in diabetes.From this plant, medicines and foods, such as flour from its bark, are made for the use of the population.Among its possible benefits in diabetes, its hypoglycemic and insulin resistance actions stand out, in addition to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, discussed in this review.Therefore, studies demonstrate an interesting action
