Resumo

RESUMO: De acordo com a historiadora colombiana Lina Del Castillo, o geógrafo inglês William Faden utilizou a expertise de oficiais portugueses na região amazônica para construir o seu grande mapa da América do Sul, intitulado Colombia Prima or South America, publicado em 1807. Neste artigo, analisamos quem eram os oficiais portugueses que o auxiliaram e, examinando a trajetória desses homens, procuramos verificar como eles contribuíram para a construção cartográfica da Amazônia. ABSTRACT: According to Colombian historian Lina Del Castillo, the English geographer William Faden used the expertise of Portuguese officials in the Amazon region to build his large map of South America, entitled Colombia Prima or South America, published in 1807. In this article, we analyze who were these Portuguese officers that helped Faden and, examining the trajectory of these men, we tried to verify how they contributed to the cartographic construction of the Amazon on Colombia Prima.
