This article is a reflectional piece to interrogate a regular parish Eucharist experience which became a powerful space of liminality after a reminder of the guest status of the congregation. Parallels with Jesus' example of inhabiting 'host' qualities whilst in a 'guest' space are drawn on and lead to careful consideration of how members of an English-speaking church in Tokyo may more easily identify with the path of Jesus due to their own temporary, liminal or post-liminal status. Due consideration is given to whether the NSKK, as well as the world wide Church, could learn from living in such a state in a way which would positively enhance mission and growth.
