ResumoFrom 1978 to 1981, 94 samples of discarded fishes of sea-bob shrimp artisanal fishery were analyzed. These sampIes, caught up to 15 m of depth, were obtained in four places of Sao Paulo State: Cananeia, Peruibe, Pereque (Guaruja) and Ubatuba. A great part of the samples was constituted of imature fishes. Seventy-seven species included in 29 families were found. With exception of two species, all others occurred in the four places studied. The most abundant family was the Sciaenidae, of which four species predominated in the samples: Stellifer rastrifer, Stellifer brasiliensis, Paralonchurus brasiliensis and Isopisthus parvipinnis. Although these species do not present high economic value, they must be considered as an important part in the equilibrium of the studied system. The studied fishery presented an uniform average production by trawl in number and weight of discarded fishes in the four sampled places. The Sao Paulo coast may be considered a homogeneous fishing area as to the rejection of fishes by the fishery directed to sea-bob shrimp. The analyzed data showed that the perceptual participation and the frequency of occurrence were low for species of high economic value, showing that we must be careful in to blame this fishery for great mortality of high economic value fishes.
