ResumoThe single seed descent (SSD) and its modifications are valuable methods that can generate progeny rows representing the genetic variability of the F2 generation. This method or its variants have been successfully used in a number of crops, particularly small grain cereals and legume crops. The SSD based rapid generation advance method coupled with genomic selection can help in rapid cycles, positively impacting genetic gain. In this chapter, generalized SSD method, important variants of this method, genetic basis, applications, advantages, and limitations are described.
