Resumo

It's such a beautiful, smooth-running machine, The Madness of King George. Words by Alan Bennett, direction by Nicholas Hytner, music by GF Handel. Nigel Hawthorne, Helen Mirren, Rupert Everett, Ian Holm, and that's before you even get to the starry supporting cast. It's packed full of ideas about monarchy, colonialism, authority, and family, and just like all good National Theatre plays, it has things to say about our time, too. It's like one of those beautiful clocks where you can see the mechanism. So to say “it's just a story,” feels reductive, perhaps even ungrateful.
