Resumo

The objective of this study was to quantify nitrate, chloride, sulfate, and phosphate in 36 samples of water from the Tapajós River, in the state of Pará.The analysis was performed using liquid chromatography with ion exchange, mean recovery values for anions NO 3 -, Cl -, SO 4 -2, and PO 4 -3 were respectively 91.99%; 96.46%; 98.22% and 89.36%.The mean concentrations of the respective anions were 0.113 mg L -1 ; 5.88 mg L -1 ; 0.516 mg L -1 and 0.214 mg L -1 .The quantified parameters were sufficient to show the potential contamination at the sampling sites, either by the dumping of domestic sewage or by leaching of chemicals fixed in the soil, mainly in more distant regions. The intense movement of vessels in the region, for the transportation of cargo and passengers, can also influence the levels found. The measured parameters distinguished the sampling regions, being possible the mapping of river by the anions presence, the influence of each quantified ion to explain the dispersion of samples is SO 4 -2 < PO
