ResumoThe selection of appropriate aggregates should consider important factors such as mineralogical characteristics and crushing processes. This paper aims to investigate the relations between aggregates sources, crushing processes, shape, and resistance to degradation. Therefore, different materials were compared in terms of mineralogy and shape. Each material was also submitted to degradation tests to evaluate breakage, abrasion, and polishing resistance. The heterogeneity of gneissic aggregates led to increase on angularity of coarse particles as their sizes reduced and also to varying behavior due to wearing. Cone crushers led to higher sphericity and lower angularity, thus being suitable for Portland cement concrete.
