ResumoWith his regular solar observations, performed with novel instrumentation and methods during his entire scientific career, Angelo Secchi became a leading figure in the history of solar physics. He discovered several structures and patterns in the solar atmosphere. In addition, he was a pioneer in applying spectroscopy and novel methods for coordinated observing campaigns of the Sun. In this chapter we focus on the legacy of Angelo Secchi in advancing our knowledge of the processes occurring in the solar atmosphere and on the Sun-Earth Connection. We examine the key questions that drove Secchi’s daily work and consider his research goals compared to those that will be carried out with the next generation of solar telescopes.
