ResumoAbstract: Since corporate social responsibility is a matter of rising importance and, knowing that micro and small businesses represent a substantial portion of the economy of a country, it may be questioned what perception these companies have on this theme. The focus of this research was the verification of factors that motivate the adhesion of social projects in these companies, through a quantitative research with factor analysis. The sample was composed of 115 merchants from Capao Redondo, Sao Paulo, that were inquired through a survey with Likert scale. The data were analyzed according to the hypothesis test and the factor analysis. Four out of the six factors that were studied presented a high level of influence: company size, social relationship, laws, and proactivity, in decreasing order. It was concluded that the companies consider ethics in their daily services more important than implementation of social projects in micro and small companies.
