ResumoWithin the multifaceted topic of place/territorial and urban identity reproduction, local music is a key cultural feature in defining the urban identity and the cities' place representation. Since music connects places, people and the local cultures, this chapter aims to investigate how local music could be addressed in place/territorial identities' representation in Romanian medium-sized towns, considering Lugoj municipality as a case study. Its culture has always assumed a particular role in the cultural background of Romania, with music and specifically classic music being an outstanding value defining the local cultural identity. The main research questions focus on how this municipality is assessed as a cultural and a musical hearth, on how local music frames a specific identity based on the musical heritage, and how musical heritage could be used for further cultural development strategies enhancing the local touristic resources. This chapter is based on a mixed methods approach, with its findings unveiling outstanding results connected to the local music as a key feature in local identity formation. They could inspire further policies on urban rebranding through the lens of the local cultures and touristic resources framed by the local music and its related features.
