A taxonomic survey of ants was carried out on the sand dunes of Joaquina Beach, Florianopolis, Santa Catarina Island, with a total of 12 collects from 29/VIII/1990 to 13/IX/1991, based on manual collecting on the soil and upon herbaceous or shrubby vegetation. A total of 20 genera with 33 species was obtained, distributed in the following subfamilies: Myrmicinae (14 species), Formicinae (9), Dolichoderinae (4), Ponerinae (4) and Pseudomyrmecinae (2). Branchymyrmex and Camponotus (Formicinae), Dorymyrmex (Dolichoderinae) and Solenopsis (Myrmicinae) showed an absolute capture frequency of 100%.
