ResumoTwo isolated communities on the Island of Florianopolis, Costa da Lagoa (CLG) and Sao Joao do Rio Vermelho (SJRV), consisting of Azores immigrants and black slave descendants, were studied demographically and genetically. Data on age, sexual distribution, inbreeding coefficient and four blood systems (the ABO and RH blood groups, the Hemoglobins and one erythrocyte enzyme, Acid Phosphatase) are reported for 120 and 118 samples of GLC and SJRV, respectively. The allele frequencies were: CLG - ABO*O = 0,646, ABO*A = 0,329, ABO*B = 0,025 (x² = 0,750; 0,70>p>0,50); RH*D = 0,603, RH*d = 0,397; HBB*A = 1,000; ACP*A = 0,315, ACP*B = 0,602, ACP*C = 0,083 (x² = 1,299; 0,90>p>0,80); SJRV - ABO*O = 0,643, ABO*A = 0,272, ABO*B = 0,085 (x² = 3,289; 0,20>p>0,10); RH*D = 0,568, RH*d = 0,432; HBB*A = 0,996, HBB*S = 0,004 (x² = 0,006; 0,95>p>0,90); ACP*A = 0,344, ACP*B = 0,591 e ACP*C = 0,065 (x² = 7,169; 0,20>p>0,10). The allele HBB*S were only found in SJRV, in a black person who was born outside this community. These populations can be considered at Hardy- Weinberg equilibrium and the differences between them are not statistically significant.
