Resumo

In this work a novel selective sensor for copper based on a carbon paste electrode modified with 2-mercaptobezothiazole (CPE-MBT) using square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) is presented. Parameters such as pH, potential and deposition time, amount of bismuth, etc. were optimized to have a selective and quantitative detection of copper, even in the presence of other metals and common interferences. The results showed a detection limit of 0.71 ppm and a quantification limit of 83.177 µA/cm2 with good repeatability and reproducibility. Additionally, the sensor was successfully applied to the analysis of water samples. Density functional theory and atoms in molecules calculations agree with the experimental results, providing insights on the modified electrode's surface.
