ResumoParticle traps for application in gas-insulated substations and transmission lines were constructed and tested in test chambers at AC 50 Hz and DC, positive and negative polarity. The traps are "natural" parts of a new construction of the shielding of GIS, carbon steel pipes (with good mechanical properties) with the inside covered by a thin (2-3 mm) aluminum sheath (to reduce the losses due to eddy currents). In some applications, the traps proved to be very effective in eliminating free conducting particles. Some sequences of particle movements were filmed with a 16 mm film-camera.
